You will be welcomed by a local tourist guide, who will guide your through ‘the most castle-like of Slovenian castles’, where you will visit a few permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as the wedding ceremony hall, to name but a few sights. Podsreda Castle is one of the rare Romanesque-era cultural monuments that rose from a dilapidated state to its new role of enriching local cultural life.

Visit of the Kozmus beekeeping farm and sweet tasting

The special importance of bees is reflected throughout the farm. You will be welcomed by dr. Peter Kozmus, Vice-President of the International Federation of Beekeepers Associations, whose profession is to protect the Carniolan honey bee, also known as the grey bee, and immediately respect and love these very important tiny creatures that are increasingly endangered. Dr. Kozmus will show you around the beehive, present the role of the beekeeper, explain why bees are endangered and what can we all do to improve their future. He will answer your questions about bee products, beekeeping methods, breeding of queen bees, etc. Your visit will end with a tasting of different types of honey on spelt bread, made at the Kozmus beekeeping farm. It is also possible to buy their products.

Visit of the Kukovičičev mlin farm with bread and home-made juice tasting

All of you who want to know how flour is made from wheat will be excited about the visit of the organic farm Kukovičičev mlin (Kukovičič's mill), where you will be able to see the process of grinding grains in a stone mill. The mill is one of the few water-powered mills in Slovenia, and it successfully combines the family tradition with modern production techniques. At the organic farm Kukovičič you will be offered a guided tour and a tasting of home-made products. The tasting includes three types of bread with home-made spreads and juices made of seasonal fruits.

The first mention of the Kozje settlement dates back to a 1016 as a manor with 30 farms. It grew next to the Kunšperk – Pilštanj road as a fairground. Sightseeing includes the market square and the so-called My mother’s school, i.e. a museum classroom from the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, set up in the very centre of Kozje by its famous son Marjan Marinšek. The exhibition includes the original door of the old school and the entire class with wooden benches and teaching tools. You may also visit the old jail that belonged to the former District Court of Kozje. It consists of five cells of which the exhibition takes up four. The visit concludes with the Krofl mill standing at the end of Bistri graben, squeezed on the narrow shelf between the creek and steep slope of Kozjek hill.

Late lunch at Kozjanski dvor

Kozjanski dvor welcomes visitors to its newly renovated pub, pizzeria and main restaurant, as well as an outdoor terrace situated by a pond in the pleasant shade of mighty willows. Treat your taste buds to a wide range of draught beer at the Kozjanski Dvor pub and accompany your late lunch with a variety of local delicacies that come straight from the farms, such as homemade pâté, salami, prosciutto and sausages. The menu is seasonal.
